Eli Gershkovitch and Steam Breweries

Eli Gershkovitch has been crafting beers and operating his award-winning Steamworks brewery since 1995. An early trip to Germany was influential in him creating the ideal landscape and temperature for his company. Returning to Canada after witnessing the craft brewery environment in Heidelberg, Germany, Eli Gershkovitch created a lasting legacy in the way craft beers were received in North America (Crunchbase).

In 1995, Eli pioneered the use of steam to power and create a strong brew, which was unheard of at the time. With his background as a lawyer, Eli was able to successfully navigate his way towards a successful establishment of a pub in Vancouver. The initial turnout was positive, and his business boomed to a full brewery by 2013.

Eli Gershkovitch has opened up a Transcontinental Restaurant which later turned into a Rogue Kitchen and Wetbar. The success of the Steamworks brews is evident in the expansion of the market, and his bustling activity in the Gastown, Vancouver area. His booming success has enabled him to focus on greater pursuits, such as his love of piloting and adventuring.

Eli spends a lot of time carefully crafting and brewing his steam-powered IPAs before presenting them to the public. Starting as a graduate student in 1987, taking a life-changing trip around to Europe, then returning home to Vancouver set the basis for a drink millions of people around the world enjoy.

Eli Gershkovitch has started with 6 craft beers in 1995, and has grown to be featured in 85 government liquor stores in North America. Eli Gershkovitch journey from a fledgling lawyer to a major player in the North American brewery scene has been inspirational and rewarding.
